Liberian Word Associations

Cape Mesurado (Monrovia area) and Cape Palmas (Maryland County) are capes along the coast of Liberia.

When Liberia changed from a Colony to a Commonwealth in 1839, its first Governor was Thomas Buchanan. Upon his death, Vice Governor Joseph Jenkins Roberts took over as Governor. Roberts later became Liberia's first president in 1848.

Bushrod and Balli are islands in Montserrado County.

The Mano and Kissi tribes name their children by birth order. The Mano name their second son Nya and the Kissi name their second son Tamba.

Gola and Kissi are of the Mel language group.
