Liberian Word Associations

When Liberia changed from a Colony to a Commonwealth in 1839, its first Governor was Thomas Buchanan. Upon his death, Vice Governor Joseph Jenkins Roberts took over as Governor. Roberts later became Liberia's first president in 1848.

The Mano tribe names the first daughter Kou, and the Kissi name the first daughter Sia.

King Sao Boso (Boatswain) was a Mandingo king of the Condo Kingdom, King Zulu Duma was ruler of the southern Vai and neighboring Gola tribes.

Before Bong and Nimba became counties in the 1960s, that region was known as the Central Province.
